Social media

Social media is very helpful during calamities so the victims can get some help. Social media is also so useful in our everyday life.
Before having social media, we had difficulty in knowing news early and let the other people know the news. Because that time only through the tv or newspaper, we could know the news. So, that time even we had big issues, it was difficult to spread. But now since we have social media, just one click, we can know all the news. Like Facebook, it helps the people in spreading the help in the whole world about calamities that happened here. Updates the people and spreads awareness.
The social workers, they are being informed about the calamities. They are in formed to safe and get ready for incoming calamities.
And also social workers can find jobs in the social media where that place that they will work is not prone for flooding.
The government could make Facebook page in the social media so that they can share information easily. They can post some news for who doesn’t watch news.Social media also helped the families like me. Even I am in the Philippines, I can chat to my parents from Korea any time.
Social media could be exchange of money because before there’s no social media, so we needed to pay for the radio or the tv but since we have social media, those kind things are becoming useless.

I can’t imagine our life without social media. Social media becoming big part of our life.

What is the face of the youth today?

I think face of the youth today is dark. Many people live in darkness. Even though they look happy, actuallythey are not. We always live in our own thought. And many people are mature becauseof the developing society. Eventhough at ayoung age, they already could encounter vices like drinking, smoking and using drugs. It not only happens in the Philippines but all over the world;the youth are just the same. I think it’s because of stress and problems. The problems could be because of family, school, study, friends and social image. We always have many problems but some people don’t know how to solve those problems. We could share them with others and ask for help but it’s difficult for us because we worry that it will give us more problems. I have an example of it.
She was on the list of Forbe’s of the 100 most powerful people in 2013. She is Oprah Winfrey, well known for the Oprah Winfrey Show. But before all the popularity and fame, she had a very difficult past. When she was nine, she was raped by her cousin. At that time, young Oprah did not know what to do. When she was fourteen, she got pregnant and had a premature birth. The baby died two weeks later. In her twenties, she started using drugs. She was so lonely and needed a friend to share her difficulties, but she could not ask anyone for help. Because she was worried that she will have more problems and she is a strong person. Some people do that because they think that it is better to keep their problems to themselves rather than finding someone to tell their problems. That is why they find alternative things to do such as drinking, smoking, using drugs and other bad habits.
Nowadays many people tend to have lives like her. So we need to prevent that and guide thosewho have difficulties. Actually it was needed from long time ago, but not yet late. Still we have the chance for change. We have many ways. First, we need to strengthen humanistic education. We need to learn how to emerge from is isolation and share heart with people. And the country should protect us from bad things because we are still very young. Like in Korea, young age people can’t buy alcoholic drink or cigarette anywhere. But I know that here in Philippines we can buy those things very easily. So I think we should tighten our law about minors buying alcoholic drinks and smoking. I have a friend. He smokes all the time when he is not in school. He smokes simultaneously. Why? Because he is always stress out. But he doesn’t know how to solve the stress problem. For our youth today we need to change. We should start change from today. And we need more idea of solving those problems. I hope our youth’s face can change to bright.

How do I love thee

I read a poem the title is How do I love thee. It’s written by Elizabeth Barrett Browning. She born in Durham, England, was the oldest of twelve children and daughter of a strict father, Edward Barrett Moulton Barrett, who owned sugar plantations in Jamaica. When fifteen, Elizabeth suffered a spinal injury caused by saddling a pony, and became addicted to pain relievers. Being weak, she was sent with her brother Edward to the sea of Torquay, where her brother drowned to death, causing her to be emotionally broken. All the while she had been deep in reading and writing poetry, and she had published some anonymous works which received much unexpected praise. She continued to write, despite her depressed state, but refused to leave her house for the next five years. During this time, she produced a collection known as Poems, which caught the eye of a poet who she had mentioned in her poems, Robert Browning.
She shares her feeling honestly, and openly. The Tone of this poem is passionate, idealistic, blissful, humorous, calm, intimate and loving. She expressed how deeply she loves her husband.
The rhyme scheme of sonnet 43 is as follows lines 1 to 8 ABBA, ABBA. Line 9 to 14, CD, CD, CD. The octave draws s analogies between the poet’s love and religious and political ideals. The sestet draws analogies between the intensity of love she felt while writing the poem and the intensity of she experienced earlier in her life.
This poem is written for the author’s husband Robert Browning. It’s for all to the man she loved. That’s why we could see how much she loved him. Actually she doesn’t want to make public this poem because she thought it’s just her personal feeling. But she made it public because of her husband’s persuasion.
I love thee with a passion put to use in my old griefs, and with my childhood’s faith. The message is delivered successfully. We don’t know she got hurts many times before or she haves a sad passion for love, but we could know that she will love her partner as a pure love as a childhood’s faith. Through this poem we could know how really she loves her partner. She wrote it honestly so we could feel the love well.

A modest proposal

I read an essay the title is A modest proposal. It’s written by Dr. Jonathan Swift. He was an Anglo-Irish satirist, essayist, political pamphleteer (first for the Whigs, then for the Tories), poet and cleric who became Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin. He was born on November 30, 1667 in Dublin, Kingdom of Ireland. And he died on October 19, 1745(aged77). Swift is remembered for works such as A Tale of a Tub, An Argument Against Abolishing Christianity, Gulliver’s Travels, and A Modest Proposal. He is regarded by the Encyclopedia Britannica as the foremost prose satirist in the English language, and is less well known for his poetry. He is also known for being a master of two styles of satire, the Horatian and Juvenalian styles. His deadpan, ironic writing style, particularly in A Modest Proposal, has led to such satire being subsequently termed “Swiftian”.
The main objective of this essay is make the people realize of reality and aware of problems. He wanted attention to the problems of Ireland. When he wrote the essay, he started with this sentence. “For Preventing the Children of Poor People in Ireland from Being a Burden to Their Parents or Country, and for Making Them Beneficial to the Public”. It’s a satire on society.
He wrote this essay because he really loves his country and he was really mad at reality. He suggests that the Irish should sell their children as food to reduce the overpopulation and poverty. It made readers shocked but he didn’t mean that really you sell the children. He just wanted to people know the problems of society now. During 1500 to 1800, Ireland faced many economic difficulties. This essay filled with satire and irony.
When I read the essay, at first I was shocked and I couldn’t understand why the author suggests that cell the young children to rich people. And I wonder how person can eat person. But when I tried search about this essay with the author, I could know that this essay is also famous in Korea. And when I read this essay of Korean translation, I could know the real purpose of why he wrote the essay, I could knew how he really mad at reality and how much he loves his country. I could feel that he really wanted to make people aware of problems. I think his idea is good. Through the essay many people can realize the realities.
I know that Philippines also have some difficulties of society and economic problems. I hope Philippines also all people aware the problems through the wise way. And also solve the problems through good way. I think like this kind of essay make us think deeply and learn more. I will try to read more this essay so I will try to understand more about it.

A Day in the Country

I read a story the title is A Day in the Country. It’s written by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. He was a Russian playwright and short story writer, who is considered to be among the greatest writers of short fiction in history. This story is about two orphaned children. In the story there are three main characters. The little beggar girl Fyokla, Fyokla’s brother Danilka and their friend a cobbler Terenty. Fyokla and Danilka don’t have parents, foods and house. So they just stay in the street and Terenty caring and helping them.
This short story is mostly about nature but the main story is Danilka had an accident. But because of Terenty, they could solve the problems. And the Danilka’s life changed because Terenty taught many things to him.
Actually when I try to read this short story, I had a hard time to understand but through explain I could get of this story. It’s about two orphaned children, and I could see their life and I could learn about the world. Actually every day I could see street children like Fyokla and Danilka, but I didn’t think about them once. But while I read this story, I could think of street children’s life. This story is kind of weirdo but it makes me think deeply.
While I read this story, these sentences were most impressive to me. The sun appears from behind the clouds and floods the wood, the fields, and the three friends with it warm light. This short story is mostly about nature. This sentence is one of that. When I read like this sentences, I could feel beauty of nature and imagine of nature. This sentence also touched me. The children fall asleep thinking of the homeless cobbler, and, in the night, Terenty comes to them, makes the sign of the cross over them, and puts bread under their heads. And no one sees his love. It is seen only by the moon which floats in the sky and peeps caressingly through the holes in the wall of the deserted barn. These sentences are the last of this story. When I read this part, it makes me feel calm and I could see here Terenty’s love.
